For All Those Highland Men

I went for a walk in the mist today
in a beautiful Highland glen,
off the beaten track away
I met some Highland men.

They were dressed the old way all battle scarred
each had a claymore by his side,
I could tell for them life had been hard
but they wore their plaid with pride.

I stood there in the mist today
the leader beckoned me near,
it seems he had something to say
he gave no cause for fear.

When the Duke called us all to arms,
we answered without delay,
we left behind family farms
for battles far away.

Each man here proved his mettle
passed the ultimate test,
each man here died in battle
we all came home to rest.

The Duke had burned every home
scattered our families wide,
it seems we're all doomed to roam
this bleating countryside.

I stood there in the mist today
full of disbelief,
it seems a loyal soldier's pay
was misery and grief.

If it takes ten thousand years we'll wait
till a Duke comes by this way,
then his line will share our fate
in this demented way.

I went for a walk in the mist today
in a beautiful Highland glen,
I fell down on my knees to pray
for all those highland men

Featured Music: "A Man's A Man For A' That"
Lyrics
Is there for honest poverty
That hangs his head and a' that?
The coward slave, we pass him by
We daur be puir for a' that.
For a' that, and a' that
Our toils obscure, and a' that
The rank is but the guinea's stamp
The man's the gowd for a' that.

Ye see yon birkie ca'd a lord
Wha struts, and stares and a' that
Tho' hundreds worship at his word
He's but a coof for a' that.
For a' that, and a' that
His ribbon, star and a' that
the man o' independence mind
He looks and laughs at a' that.

A king can make a belted knight
A marquis, duke and a' that
But an honest man's aboon his micht
Gude faith, he maunna fa' all that
For a' that, and a' that
Their dignities and a' that
The pith o' sense and pride o' worth
Are higher ranks than a' that.

Then let us pray that come it may
As come it will for a' that
That sense and worth o'er a' the earth
May bear the gree and a' that
For a' that, and a' that
It's coming yet, for a' that
When man to man the world o'er
Shall brithers be for a' that.
